With the awful showing in season 2, Serial to re-tapping the season 1 well following Adnan Syed hearing - possibly looking for an ending to the complete lack of conclusion. Really should have stayed on top and went on to something else or change the format to suit the story instead of trying to force this format on a story that doesn't work.
