Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

If this isn't one of the best podcast series you've ever heard then maybe podcasts aren't for you. He's brilliant and witty, with a soothing voice. The only downside is waiting half a year for the next episode. I envy the people you have just begun binge listening to this.
