Making Sense with Sam Harris
Learning how to have great conversations
Sam Harris is so eloquent and verbose that it sounds like he's reading from a book most of the time. I catch myself wondering "how does anybody choose such perfect words to convey a complex meaning on the fly like that? He's one of the clearest thinkers and communicators I've ever enjoyed listening to. I'm so used to arguments/debates being these nasty confrontations that don't accomplish anything and quickly devolve into people talking over one another. But here is a wonderful example of someone who deliberately invites people with whom he has disagreements with and they thoughtfully and respectfully talk about them without any feelings of confrontation. We desparately need more of this in our culture. We need constant reminders that disagreeing with someone doesn't mean they are your enemy, but rather that there's the opportunity for both parties to learn something new. Sam is an outstanding role model in this and many other regards.
